(pain english version follows below...)
E allora!!!
Gaim lo trovate qui, PhoneGaim qui.
Inizio ad usarlo e vi faccio sapere...
Update: Per cancellare i vostri dati da Skype dovrete mandare una mail a delete@skype.com. Mica facile!
After reading this article (only in italian, sorry) I have decided to... Kill Skype!
I already know that this decision will instigate above all enormous protests from the cohabitant of this blog.
Thin to today Skype has been the program with which me, "the man without an house" and other friends have succeeded in meet-up, have good time, organize this blog, despite the enormous distances that separate us.
Also recommending it, I have always fed serious doubts, for the fact that this software, as others that I am using in this moment, is copyrighted: this means that the gentlemens of E-Bay (the service more used to trade on line, together with Paypal the more used on-line bank, owners also of Skype) are able in any moment to know what I do / I tell in my virtual life and not that I do sort of things..., but I don't like this (and it is not paranoia).
Now with that Skype 2 is out, they're stopping in playing: I already see among a few months the videocams diffusion used for video-calls included in this version, spreading the whole world (and who has smell for the business should acts accordingly) with the possibility from E-Bay to also spy us in the real life...
As consumers we have done the success of Skype (besides technically excellent), now ourselves we have to begin to look around for an open software that allows the same things, without the vigilant eye of the software owners.
For now the only alternative (waiting for the release of the Google Talk code) already enough diffused is Gaim, software that allows chat with all the most diffused systems (AOL Instant Messenger, ICQ, IRC, MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk): this with the addition of PhoneGaim allows the same functions of Skype and rather someone in more. However any passage is painless: with PhoneGaim there's no possibility to make calls to the normal telephones (in Italy) but aren't you reading me from a PC? So what!?!
Gaim is here, PhoneGaim here.
I'm beginning to use it and let you know...
Update: To cancel your data from Skype you have to send a mail to delete@skype.com.
Not easy to find!

E cosa ci danno in cambio??
P.
I do not agree!!
Well, everybody is spying us - Internet providers, Internet, cellphones, credit cards, webcams in the street...where is the news?!?!?
And what do I get back??
And even if Skype charges me with a Euro per month and uses a little bit of my cpu...what do I care?
I'll stop using when they will do very BAD things.
Right now they are doing bad things, but they provide a service that works and is free.
The "others" provide a bad service and they spy me anyway...
As usual, we have got to choose the smaller between two evils....

Gaim, come tanti altri software, è OPEN.
Ouch, an "Italian" answer from the less italian person of us...
I'm waiting next time you blame Mr. Bill Gates: how do you think he took the monopoly on the OS and Office market? Just because some time ago he permitted all to have his SW for free (Windows and Office were the more unprotected software in the world).
Skype is doing the same in a less hypocrite way.
Gaim, as a lot of software, is OPEN.
OPEN means that if anyone modify the SW to re-route the data through his servers , there will be other persons that immediately will realize it and will alarm users and developers' community, so they will abandon the SW in favour of another one, or if the SW is very good they will make a "fork", a new version without the suspicious modifications (it often happens - see the "fork" of "X-Org" from "X-Free", the two graphical engine of Linux).
So no smaller between two evils, just a choice to do looking a bit further.
2 domande:
2 questions:
1. Can you do without an Operative System?
2. Can you do without an ALTERNATIVE phone?
We aren't talking about medicines, we are talking about something you can send to hell at anytime if they get on your case....
P.
p.s. Maybe being abroad turned me into a real Italian, more than Italians in Italy.
Try to send to hell Windows or Office NOW: you can try to do it at your home, but if you try to do it at your work, you'll be cut-off.
Send to hell Skype before this will occur and we become slave to it...
I suggest to close this discussion here and go deeper in the next posts: your "Classifications and Categorization" and mine "Dependences"... ;)
Hence you think Skype can replace all the telephone companies?
You've got to be kidding.....they'll never allow a single provider to bury all of 'em........
P.
RispondiEliminaCiao Belli
